Discover The Many Types Of Dog Training Courses

Puppies grow up extremely quickly, and before you know it they are adults that have passed the optimum age for learning new tricks. Nevertheless, there are many dog training courses that you and your canine can attend, which will correct any behavioral issues that your dog may have. It is important to address these directly, as issues that seem slight can quickly spin out of control, leading to more serious dominance and aggression problems.

There are two main ways to train your dog. The first is positive teaching, also called positive reinforcement, in which you provide rewards for good behavior. This is what the majority of trainers will use. When the animal exhibits bad behavior, you are taught to ignore it, which is punishment enough for the dog as it will crave your attention.
The second is negative teaching, which will involve a punishment when your dog displays unwanted behavior. Due to recent debates on these two methods, more trainers are switching styles to positive training, as a dog that is comfortable is likely to absorb more information.
The most basic of classes will involve simple obedience exercises and will aim to help you to understand how to improve the communication between you and your pet. Commands such as sit and stay may seem easy and unnecessary, but it is vital that your dog understands these for his own safety. Instead of sitting back and watching the trainer teach your dog, you will need to get involved and learn for yourself how to perform the right coaching exercises, as you will need to practice what you have learned between each session and remember to be consistent with your coaching.
Once you have mastered the basic commands, the next set of classes will involve more sophisticated tricks. Not only are these for entertainment, but they will strengthen the bond between you and your pet, as well as engaging the mind and developing the dogs communication skills. There are also many specialized classes that are run for dogs who have other duties than being a house pet.
If you intend for your pet to be a guard dog, there are special methods that are used to develop his protective abilities. Rescue dogs also often need extra training, as they have most likely suffered a previous trauma that can leave them in an unhealthy state. These classes will help to introduce the canine to society and ease him into his new daily routine. Certain problems that dogs have can also be tackled by a training class.
Incessant barking, constantly pulling on the leash and separation anxiety are hugely common issues that owners are increasingly facing. These can develop into a vicious cycle that will leave you feeling tired and frustrated.
Specific training tools may be suggested to you to help with some of these problems. The choke collar is commonly used in dog training, and though it is sometimes frowned upon, is effective in decreasing undesired behavior. You should only use this method once you have mastered the technique as it may actually be harmful.
