USMLE Step 1 Exam - 3 Essentials To Help You Score Over 220

Getting a great score on the USMLE Step 1 exam is more about doing the right preparatory work than it is being smart. In order to set yourself up for the best possible score, try following the three tricks I've outlined below, as these are essentials that I have been taught from my teachers and have helped most of my peers score exceptionally well also:
Step 1 - Start doing questions ASAP
While most people start doing questions only a few weeks before their USMLE exams, you can benefit highly by doing them slowly and consistently over the course of your basic sciences. This not only helps you do better in your classes, but it helps you prepare and get used to the testing methods used by those writing the USMLE exams. Keep fantastic notes of all your questions so you have a reference guide to go back to at any time.
Step 2 - Use a study guide from day 1
Most people only buy a study guide when it is time to 'cram' for the boards, but you can increase your score by 15-20 points by simply starting with a study guide from day 1. If you are studying for step 2 you can do this on the first day of your clinical studies, if you are just starting med school grab a study guide for your first day of school. Keep it with you and jot down everything that accompanies the high-yield information inside your study guide.
Step 3 - Don't give yourself too much time
If you give yourself 12 weeks to study then you are going to slow down your pace and drag-out your learning, but when you give yourself half that time you'll notice that you learn more, faster, and ultimately this is better for your test-taking. You will adjust your intensity with a different time-frame, so giving yourself less time can significantly improve your studying, and your score.
